Singapore’s local food destinations: a guide by GOJEK
23 Feb 2024

Ah, Singapore – land of glorious, glorious food. We gather suggestions on the best dishes from the people who know the city best: our driver-partners, of course! Everything from well-established institutions to lesser-known food joints, we’ve got you covered.

Breakfast

Teban Gardens

This mini enclave at Jurong East may or may not be necessarily worth the trip if you’re a die-hard East-sider, but we say: try it out and see for yourself! Must-tries include:

  • Quan Soon Wanton Noodle: #01-04 Teban Gardens Food Centre
  • Ban Mian Fish Soup: 61 Teban Gardens Road

Upper Thomson Road

This is the official neighbourhood in which our driver-partner support centre resides, which means they’ve got ample experience looking for food here. Must-tries include:

  • One Man Coffee: 215R Upper Thomson Road
  • Yi Jia Bakery House Café: 229 Upper Thomson Road
  • Hua Nam Restaurant: 244F Upper Thomson Road
  • Chocolat N’ Spice: 320 Shunfu Mart, #02-12

Lunch/Dinner

Seah Im Food Centre

Where: 2 Seah Im Road

A not-so-secret hawker centre for the budget-conscious Sentosa traveller, this no-frills food destination has everything from halal-certified local nosh to Taiwanese braised pork bowls. Must-tries include:

  • Eat 3 Bowls
  • Aspirasi Chicken Rice
  • Kheng Nam Lee Curry Rice

Ye Shang Hai Teochew Porridge

Where: 55 Lengkok Bahru, #01-387

A popular haunt amongst driver-partners, Ye Shang Hai serves very good comfort dishes at really low prices – a complete meal starts as low as $2! Must-tries include:

  • Braised duck
  • Braised pork belly
  • Chicken feet

Supper

Geylang

This neighbourhood has suffered a reputation that may have been less than immaculate, but hey – good food doesn’t discriminate. Must-tries include:

  • Swee Guan Hokkien Mee: 549 Geylang Road
  • 126 Eating House: 126 Sims Avenue
  • Eminent Frog Porridge: 323 Geylang Road

No Name Teh Sarabat Stall

Where: 21 Baghdad Street

Frothy, milky goodness that runs until 12 midnight – perfect for a late-night chat with your friends after a movie at The Projector.

Rochor Original Beancurd

Where: 2 Short Street

This household name started as a humble makeshift stall in 1955, and serves silky smooth beancurd, grass jelly, and fritters. Perfect for bedtime.
