5-star things to do this National Day 2019
23 Feb 2024

There’s nothing quite as loud and proud as this nation during the National Day period – the town turns red a month before, and the sky gets peppered with fireworks. Our mini-guide will help you celebrate in style all that makes Singapore.

Have a 5-star staycation

The exquisite hotels circling the civic district would be your best bet for front-row seats to National Day fireworks – think the likes of Marina Bay Sands and The-Ritz Carlton, Millennia. You’d be glad to have a plush bed to sink into after all the excitement.

(Or take a 5 Stars Express to elsewhere)

Taking a holiday doesn’t make you any less patriotic, and visiting our neighbors is very much Singaporean. Escape the NDP crowd and take a wallet-friendly bus ride to Malaysia. A Five Stars Express bus ride isn’t the most glamorous, but it more than makes up for it with its price tag.

Eat a 5-star meal

Where: Multiple locations

Singapore has everything from Michelin-starred hawkers to Michelin-starred swish restos. Skip those and go for a tried-and-tested establishment: Five Star Hainanese Kampung Chicken Rice. This eatery prides itself on focusing on the freshness and quality of its free-range chickens.

Chase the Singaporean Dream

Where: Singapore Indoor Stadium

When: 3–4 August

Be a certified 5-star Singaporean and join the first ever Singaporean Dream Tournament held at Campus Game Fest 2019. Prizes for winners range from return flights on AirAsia, a night stay at W Singapore for two, and e-gift cards from Giftany.

Go stargazing

Where: Science Centre

There’s no better way to get in touch with the homeland than by understanding the stars that make her flag. The Science Centre Singapore Observatory regularly holds family-friendly stargazing sessions, and this one in August is very aptly named ‘Reach for the Stars’.

Bonus: Give your driver-partners 5 stars

Our Gojek driver-partner community is made up of very patriotic individuals – some of their cars are even decked out with Gojek and Singapore flags. Don’t forget to drop them a compliment after your trip ends!

Psst… certain roads are closed for NDP. For more, click here.
