Let's GOJEK! Things to do this weekend: #2

Let's GOJEK! Things to do this weekend: #2

Just getting back into the groove of everyday routines? Fear not – this weekend boasts everything from art on buildings and batik, to a beer sale at Camp Kilo. Psst… taking a GOJEK to these places, is, of course, highly recommended ;)

Light to Night Festival

When: 18 Jan–24 Feb, 5PM–Midnight

Where: Civic District

This urban art festival spans 6 weeks all around the Civic District, featuring art installations responding to the theme “Traces and Echoes” during the Singapore Art Week; as well as Singapore’s rich history during the Bicentennial Edition. Also includes comedic performances from the likes of Kumar and Hirzi Zulkiflie.

Of Wax, Dyes & Labour

When: 19 Jan–9 Feb

Where: Malay Heritage Centre

Artists respond to batik as a nod to this time-old art form, and we find Almostasthma’s particularly intriguing. The Singaporean prohibitory signs on traditionally Indonesian cloth is a distinctive visual: very reminiscent of Singapore-is-a-fine-city tourist t-shirts, in the best ways possible.

Of Wax, Dyes & Labour is part of Singapore Art Week.

Singapore Really Really Free Market

When: 20 Jan, 11AM–4:30PM

Where: Marina Barrage

This is a flea market of sorts… just Really, Really Free. Pick up trinkets with literally zero consequences to your wallet (and minimal impact on the environment), or if you’re in the midst of Marie Kondo-ing your home to minimalist perfection, pack your stuff and share them with others.

The Singapore Really Really Free Market is part of EarthFest 2019.

Camp Brew: Pop-Up Beer Sale

When: 20 Jan, 2PM–10PM

Where: Camp Kilo Charcoal Club

Know your lagers and ales? This one you definitely shouldn’t miss: the folks behind Thirsty Craft Beer Shop bring their best brews to Camp Kilo, accompanied by DJs Andrew Chow, Twohands, and Justo. We’re mostly excited for the free sampling and prices that go as low as $3.

Explore: Indian Heritage Centre

Where: 5 Campbell Lane

Witness experiences of South Asians all across our side of the world, including that of the Chetti Melaka, who brought with them rich socio-cultural traits that were adapted into local societies. This particular weekend, the IHC will celebrate Pongal: the harvest festival dedicated to the Sun God.
